Recently it was my birthday. While I loved the surprise artisan cupcakes chosen for me from my family, I am really not much of a cake fanatic. So, when the little hands reached over to my plate, I happily handed over my frosting topped dessert to my four and six year old children. This may sound selfless, but it was far from it. Secretly, I knew back in my freezer a few of my favorites were stocked and waiting…smiling I thought of blackberry cabernet sorbet and peach ginger sorbet. I turned to my husband whose plate was licked clean and said ”See, a mom even gives her own kids her cupcakes” (Grinning inside and feeling it was somewhat worthy of an Emmy)

I enjoyed my blackberry cabernet sorbet that night scooped into a clear stemless wine glass and it was indulgently bold and overflowing with succulent blackberries. It was a perfect birthday treat. It was so good, that the next day all I could think about was enjoying my other favorite – peach ginger sorbet.

Stay away from sorbet, go have a cupcake.

I was late coming home the next night because I had met my girlfriends for dinner. It was late enough that everyone was tucked in bed and sound asleep. Peach ginger sorbet, a blanket and seeing Pia get surprisingly booted off American Idolon the DVR popped instantly into my mind.

I made a Bee Line for the freezer. I opened the drawer and reached in. “It’s Gone!” I immediately went to the trash can and saw it sitting there empty. My peach ginger sorbet pint. Feeling defeated and slightly irritated, I went upstairs. My husband woke up and I knew what happened. “You let him eat it? How could you!? There was strawberry sorbet and mango sorbet in there too!” I stated firmly. Laughing he responded ”He’s 6. He wanted it. Isn’t that what a mom would do?”

“Grr” I replied. “I love you all dearly, but stay away from my Sorbet!”

Do you feel that way about a favorite thing? I know I can not be the only one. Please share.

Check out all that yummy sorbet!

Hello out there in Ciao Bella land! This is Sorbet Syd, a member of the Ciao Bella marketing team. My colleagues cleverly coined that name for me as I am the ultimate sorbet guru. Stacks of pints are housed in my freezer – do you like my photo? – in the event I have a hankering for something sweet morning, noon or night. Whether it’s a sophisticated treat like Blackberry Cabernet, or a sweet yet tart snack like Northwest Raspberry, Ciao Bella sorbet is refreshingly satisfying and always hits the spot. Do I have a favorite? No way. It’s too difficult to narrow down one. Trust me, all are equally yummy.

You see, I am allergic to milk i.e. lactose intolerant, which means I have to steer clear of products containing milk or milk enzymes, so no gelato for me . The upside is Ciao Bella sorbets have a creamy mouth feel, similar in texture to frozen dairy desserts. Ciao Bella chocolate sorbet, for example, on a sugar cone, is the next best thing to gelato or ice cream. A delicious frozen chocolate treat sans milk is practically unheard of, but our executive chef Danilo Zecchin nailed it. Look for the lavender and light blue pint at your favorite grocery store.

Well, over the next few weeks I hope to blog various Ciao Bella stories, and I encourage you to do the same. Are there any sorbet fanatics out there? I’d love to hear from you.
