We Love our Truck

Our truck is decidedly cute.  It’s festive.  And then we put out some pretty wood tables and chairs with the adorable red umbrellas, combined with a great mix on my ipod, and it really is a fun set up with a great vibe.  It may take some muscle and a ladder to get it all set up right, but it’s worth the sweat.

Want proof?  Check out this family, enjoying their samples in the shade of our umbrellas.

So, I will admit that we were disappointed today to learn from a friendly code enforcement agent in Laguna Niguel that without a permit from the city planning board, we could face a gigantic ticket for sampling from our truck this afternoon (thankfully, he was super nice, and didn’t give us the ticket himself!).

Next stop, City Hall, where I was told getting such a permit wasn’t something we could do on the spot, even though we had verbal permission from the landlord, insurance forms, and the invitation of the store.

But the West Coast Bella Girls were undeterred!  The managers at the Vons were super helpful and accomodating: we tossed our samples in the ice freezer at the front of the store, set Tiff up at a table between the freezer and one entrance, and the a-frame, coupons and I went to the other entrance to send customers Tiff’s way.  Not quite as fun without our truck and tables and tunes, but not a bad way to spend the evening.

Three’s Company, Bella Girl Style

Elle and I just spent our last full day in Charlotte. Our boss Deborah came out to pass out some samples and spend quality time with her 2 favorite east coast bella girls!

The first event was a hot one (I believe the heat wave began this morning) but it was a sunny morning and a perfect one for cool treats. Deborah’s family came out and enjoyed some gelato and sorbet at one of our tables. Her son Owen was our Ciao Bella Superman for the morning and daughter Catherine  was our future Bella Girl. At lunch Deborah, Elle and I laid a blanket out in the truck and had ourselves a Ciao Bella style picnic!

The second event quickly turned into the biggest storm the tour has had yet! The ferocious winds and heavy rains forced us to close our side door for the first time. The three of us were held up in our little truck while we took turns at the little serving window. A little boy was helping his mother carry an umbrella when his Ciao Bella excitement overtook him and he nearly pulled his mother over into the rain in order to get to the truck as fast as possible! Oh and Elle got hit in the eye by a grasshopper, yep, that really happened.

Overall a great day and it was fun to have another person to talk to and help us out.. thanks Deborah, we had fun! We hope to have you at more events!

A Freezer Full of Fun

Tiff (inside) and me with the truck!

Ever since we started driving our pretty pink and orange truck, we’ve been a little curious about just exactly how much gelato and sorbet we can actually hold.

It’s been a bit of a mystery, largely because every time we’d place an order to re-fill, it either wouldn’t fill her quite up to the brim or we’d have some extras, which we’d toss in our spare cooler with some dry ice. And by the time we were going back for more, we had depleted our stock, but never run quite all the way out.

But today, I think we actually figured it out. We counted how many we had left in the truck when we arrived to stock up this morning. And we knew how many we had ordered.

It turns out we did a brilliant ordering job. It appears that 172 cases of delightful Ciao Bella sorbet and gelato cups is that magic number that fills our freezers right to the top, with no overflow and all doors shutting as they should!

With 2,064 samples on hand when we started our events this morning, we should have plenty to keep the OC satisfied this week! Come help us work through our delicious freezers. It’s all about Vons tomorrow: Ladera Ranch first (25636 Crown Valley Parkway) from 11 am – 2 pm, followed by Laguna Niguel (27320 Alicia Parkway) from 4 – 7 pm. Hope to see you there!
