Elle and I are very excited to be in Raleigh! This morning was beautiful but the heat wave made for a very hot day. It was 95 degrees and I believe I drank about 8 bottles of water.

We are staying with my friends from college, Kelly and Jacob. We were happy to discover that the apartment happened to be about 2 miles from our events today. One lady this morning got excited to see our truck and explained to us that she was having a party this week and planned to serve Ciao Bella! I’m sure it will be a blast (it will be delicious in the least!).

Kelly got to swing by our second event and loved the Tahitian Vanilla. As fun as it is to meet new people and see them fall in love with Ciao Bella, sometimes it’s exciting to be able to convert long-time friends into fans too. The manager James was great and we thank him for having us.

We look forward to spending more time with y’all here in Raleigh and hope you will come out to enjoy some samples and say hello to us! Check out Facebook and Twitter to follow!

Ciao Bella in Arkansas

What's your favorite flavor combination?

One of my responsibilities at Ciao Bella is training new gelato bar customers on the ins and outs of gelato, sorbet and of course CIAO BELLA. This week I got to travel to Rogers, AR to share my knowledge. Planning my trip was not as easy as it seemed. Apparently, there aren’t too many flight options to the NW Regional Airport. My first stop was Charlotte where the eastcoastBELLAgirls just finished up handing out yummy samples of Ciao Bella’s single serve cups – their next stop is Raleigh. After an hour layover, I was off to Arkansas.

On the plane to AR a college student, who was flying home from a 35 day trip around Europe, struck up a conversation with me. Interested in the book I was reading, “Eat This, Not That” (check out page 222 to see Ciao Bella as an Eat This) we got to talking about the different food experiences and otherwise on his trip. He mentioned how he had never been on a subway prior to his trip (crazy) and how much he enjoyed Italy and its almost daily festivals. Of course, I told him that I worked for Ciao Bella, America’s Favorite Gelato, and how our delicious gelato and sorbet is soon to be available in Rogers, AR.

Excited to have landed in AR, I was greeted with a surprise – thick hot air. It’s been raining and chilly in NJ for several weeks and I almost forgot what summer air feels like. I picked up my rental and was on my way to the hotel to rest up for gelato bar training the following day. Driving in AR was certainly different from what I am used to. There were few street lights and miles of farmland. Several times I thought I was lost and/or missed my turn. Funny, cuz it is quite hard to get lost when your directions consist of only 5 turns. After a couple of u-turns I finally arrived at my hotel and was excited for the next day’s events.

Bright and early, I checked out the continental breakfast searching for the healthiest options I could find – fat free chocolate milk and a cinnamon raisin bagel. (Yes, not all that healthy, but, hey, it is a hotel breakfast.) Now off to the training. Hopefully, I don’t get lost this time. (Fortunately, the directions are easier – only three turns). Getting off exit 82 on I-540 north I make a right and come up to a beautiful brand new Neighborhood Market by Walmart. I have arrived.

I head over to the sign-in table and introduce myself. The new store is really nice. It is very inviting and has a lot of great features, like a gelato bar full of Ciao Bella gelato and sorbet. I am introduced to the team members that will be responsible for serving Ciao Bella’s frozen treats. My first question, what is gelato? The answer, a resounding – I don’t know. Hmm…we’ve got some work to do.

Gelato is Italian-style ice cream. It has less air and butterfat making it creamier and all the more yummy. Ciao Bella only uses the finest ingredients and stays true to the natural flavor profiles. The result is a frozen treat that excites the taste buds and delights with every bowl full.

The best part about any training is getting to sample Ciao Bella’s gelato and sorbet and witnessing the faces of those tasting it for the first time. It is such a great feeling when you are able to bring a smile to someone’s face with just a spoonful of deliciousness. By the time I completed my presentation everyone was officially hooked and super excited to share our flavors with others. And now back home.

The day’s favorite flavor was by far Ciao Bella’s Tahitian Vanilla gelato. What’s your favorite?

Farewell Charlotte…Hello Raleigh.

Lauren and I would like to thank you Charlotte for a great couple of weeks. We had a wonderful time, and are sad to have to leave you so soon.  Including our two days in Greensboro, we have given out over 4000 samples so far. We are well on our way to the one million samples both coasts wish to hand out this summer. We still have a long way to go and we couldn’t be more thankful for the tremendous support we have received from our fabulous Ciao Bella lovers.

An extra note about today: We met the biggest Ciao Bella lovers so far on the tour. Two ladies came up to us today. One had a list of several of our locations. She said they had been tracking us down, and were glad they finally caught us. They first heard about Ciao Bella on Oprah when she announced the Blood Orange was one of her Favorite Things. The ladies immediately went to the grocery store to buy it. They ended up buying $60 worth of Ciao Bella. They have been keeping their freezers stocked ever since. Charlotte set the bar high when it comes to Ciao Bella lovers. Raleigh, it’s up to you to try to set the bar even higher.

Ciao Bella's biggest fans.

Lauren, Penelope (for those of you who do not know, we have affectionately named our gelato mobile Penelope. We did this for a few reasons: 1. We like to name inanimate objects, 2. Since we spend so much time with her, she is becoming a close friend of ours and she deserves a name.) and I are en route to Raleigh. Once again we started this leg of the trip out in true East Coast Bella Girl style. After stopping by CVS for a few last minute things and some much needed caffeine from Starbucks we headed North/East on 485 (if you live in or have ever been to Charlotte, you understand the complicatedness of the directions of 485), anyway I digress.

We were less than 10 minutes, if that far, from Lauren’s apartment when the trucker behind us started flashing his lights, blowing his horn and waving. We pulled over on the shoulder of the road. I immediately jumped out and ran to the back of the truck because my initial thought is, “On no. The generator blew up.” This was my initial thought due to the events that occurred on our way down from New Jersey. If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen to us. Come to find out, the truck driver saw the hinges on the side of our truck that hold up our serving tray and thought it was a set of keys hanging out of the door. I explained to him what they were, and bless his heart. I think he was embarrassed. I told him we were grateful to have someone looking out for us. So thank you Mr. Trucker for trying to help us.

Lauren and I are currently out in the middle of nowhere. The GPS decided to take us on the scenic route instead of the interstate route. It’s a pretty drive so I think I should call it quits on the blogging for the night. I want to take in the beauty that is North Carolina.

Stay tuned as the saga continues…
