Elle and I are in Connecticut for our first time! As you probably know, the capital city is Hartford and I got very excited for this city for a reason many of you may not guess. I am a huge Gilmore Girls fan. I have all but one season (there are a total of 7) on DVD. I love the quick wit, pop culture references and overall lifestyle in the small fiction town of “Stars Hollow.” Hartford is in the show a lot though because the main characters formerly estranged parents reside there.

An enjoyable aspect of the show is that the Gilmore Girls have bizarre but fun appetites. They once made “dessert sushi” out of Red Hots, M&Ms and Fruit Roll-ups. They refuse to watch Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory without loads of Sno caps, Gum Drops, and chocolate syrup to go on their marshmallows. They top pizza with anything they can find. They eat steak at a restaurant called “Al’s Pancake World.” I love their passion for all food but wacky, junky food at that.

Apparently, Connecticut is known as “The Nutmeg State”. Where this comes from exactly no one seems to be sure. If you know, please fill me in. I’m surprised Gilmore Girls has never touched on that before. Perhaps it was brought over by sailors returning from a voyage? I don’t know.

Anyway, these are the thoughts that ran through my mind today as I experienced this great state for the first time. Oh and we discovered last night that Outback will deliver straight to our hotel room.. Connecticut, you rock!

Our Penelope may not have special spices or crazy-Hartford-Gilmore Girl style creations, but we do have some great free samples of gelato and sorbet, and hope all you Nutmeggers come out to see us!
